5 Easy Ways To Take Your Microdose

So, you’ve decided to start microdosing magic truffles. An excellent choice. By adding this to your wellness regimen you are beginning a higher quality of life. Microdosing psilocybin (a compound contained in magic truffles) has been found to help with everything from general happiness and creativity, to conditions such as depression, OCD, social anxiety and even addiction. It’s a no-brainer!

However, like all supplements, be they herbal or pharmaceutical, for some people a microdose can be tricky to take. Sure, many swallow it down without any problems, however, for a few a little help is needed.

So, just for you, we’ve decided to make a list of our top methods of ingesting a microdose. Whether you want to fit your dose into a honed and speedy morning routine, combine it with some other supplements, disguise the taste if you’re not partial, or ease any potential nausea, we have a technique for you! Here are 5 easy ways to take your microdose…

*Note: these methods assume you will take your microdose in the morning before you start your day, as is our recommendation. This means that you will be optimised ready for a full day of productivity, and will have no trouble sleeping later on. 

Keep It Simple And Chew 

As we said before, some people don’t mind the taste of their magic truffle microdose. In fact, some (us included!) find it nutty, earthy and even a little spicy! If you are in this camp then you have the most straightforward microdose method. As our microdoses come pre-measured into individual servings — all you need to do is pop it out the packet, pop it straight into your mouth — then pop your remaining microdoses back in the fridge for another day! Chew it thoroughly, so your body can begin to break the magic truffles down as soon as possible. To make this process speedier, we recommend chopping your microdose into smaller pieces before you eat it, cutting down your chew-time and helping you absorb your microdose even faster. 

Tame The Taste With Tea

A popular way to ingest a microdose is by brewing it into a nice cuppa. Yes, if it’s the flavour you take issue with, this is a method that goes a long way. It is also highly effective at combating the nausea reaction that some people experience with microdosing. Simply heat some water in a pan, chop your microdose into smaller pieces and add it to the water. Make sure you do not boil your infusion, exposing your microdose to high temperatures will stop it being effective. Remove your infusion from the heat and let it steep for 5-15 minutes. Next, squash the magic truffles down with a spoon, to get as much psilocybin out as you can, then pour through a fine strainer.

The amount of water you choose to heat will determine whether you have a little ‘shot’ of tea, or a bigger brew — I mean, you may as well hydrate while you’re at it, right?

If you wanna take it further you could flavour with citrus, a tea bag, mint leaves or honey — whatever you fancy really! If you are regularly microdosing with this method, you will soon find your favourite infusion. 

Optimise With The Stamets Stack 

Mycologist Paul Stamets is a huge advocate of microdosing psilocybin. However, Mr Stamets takes it a few steps further with his very own ‘stack’ of supplements. The eponymous stack contains psilocybin, lion’s mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) and niacin (that’s vitamin B3), and Stamets believes it is the way to truly optimise the brain, even going as far as to apply for a patent for this cognitive elixir. Together this combination of natural ingredients is a ‘nootropic’ — i.e. a substance that aids and improves mental function.

So, you already have your psilocybin microdose. The next steps are to order the lion’s mane mushroom and the niacin. Of course, fresh lion’s mane mushroom is great, but it is much easier and more convenient to purchase capsules full of this brain-protecting mushroom’s extract instead. They can be found easily online. Niacin is also an easy find on the ‘net, and this metabolism boosting, memory improving vitamin also helps the psilocybin and lion’s mane extract work even more efficiently. Do not fear the ‘Niacin Flush’ however: although this vitamin can cause reddish flushing on the face, it should fade within the hour. This flushing, according to Stamets, helps improve blood flow, due to the small blood vessels of your body opening up, thus optimising your absorption of the ‘stack’.

So, The Stamets Stack:

Psilocybin — 0.5 to 1g

Lion’s Mane Extract — 5 to 20mg

Niacin — 100 to 200mg 

Unlike the standard microdose method (1 day on, two days off), Stamets recommends taking this superhuman stack on days 1-4 of the week, and resting (i.e. not microdosing) on days 5-7. However, it is important to work out the best method for you, as this will vary from person to person. 

Get Fruity With A Smoothie 

If you already start the day with a healthy, vitamin rich fruit smoothie, why not just chuck your magic truffle microdose in with the berries? And even if you don’t already begin the day with a fruity blast, you could start today! — it is also a great way to disguise the taste of the microdose. 

Chop your microdose finely and add it to the blender with the fruits of your choice. You could also add other vitamin supplements or protein powder to really make this breakfast beverage bullet-proof.

1g of fresh magic truffle microdose ✨

½ a large banana 🍌

½ cup of pineapple 🍍

1 cup of frozen mixed berries 🍓

1 tablespoon of peanut butter / nut butter of your choice 🥜

Turn It Into A Treat

If you don’t like the taste of magic truffle microdoses, but don’t wanna go down the tea or smoothie route (some days there’s just no time!) there is another way. Simply eat your microdose with a square or two of your favourite chocolate. Or any sweet treat of your choosing!

Yep! Chocolate for breakfast — the childhood dream that our parents never allowed. Ok, so maybe it’s not as healthy as a smoothie, but every 3 days can’t hurt! And what with the links between microdosing and weight management, you can definitely allow yourself a sweet treat to look forward to. Additionally, if you’re partial to dark chocolate you’ll be getting some antioxidants as part of the bargain! Chocolate is perfect to both mask and compliment the nutty taste of a magic truffle microdose — and perhaps those without a sweet tooth could plump for a cube of sharp cheddar — delicious!
